Harimaya Honten traces its roots to my predecessor, the first Sukejiro Harimaya, who started a business selling lamp oil in the 1860s in Hyogo Prefecture's Ikuno-cho, which is famous for the Ikuno silver mine developed by Hideyoshi Toyotomi.
In 1948, the family started manufacturing confectionary and from 1971, when I joined the company, we changed to making rice crackers.
In 1986, I assumed responsibility for the company and drastically changed the way we sold our products by establishing mail order sales and our own shops to enable us to deal directly with customers.
These dramatic changes led to phenomenal growth.
At present we have annual sales of about ¥7 billion.
Of this figure, about ¥3.0 billion is accounted for by our mail order business while the remaining ¥4.0 billion is from our shops.
We have about 150 full-time employees and about 140 part-time workers.
We sell only traditional Japanese foods, mainly rice crackers and rice cakes.
Typical products include the following:
(1) Asahiage
(2) Aji no Fukiyose
(3) Konotori no Fukubukuro
(4) Oyakimochi
(5) Harimayaki
